A Giveaway!

After our little Bennett was born last summer, I noticed my scalp itched almost daily. I thought maybe I was eating something that was causing it to be sensitive, or maybe I just wasn't washing it often or well enough now that I had four kids and less time to take a shower every day!

When asked by BlogHer if I was interested in trying Head & Shoulders Eucalyptus Itchy Scalp Care shampoo and conditioner and writing about my experience, I hoped I would be chosen, so I could give it a try and see if it helped me without going out and buying it.

Do you have dryness, itchiness, and/or scalp sensitivity? 84% of surveyed scalp issue sufferers were concerned about dryness, itchiness, and sensitivity, so Head & Shoulders uses a HydraZinc formula with the promise to alleviate these symptoms.

How does it work? Well, dandruff is caused by a combination of factors, namely the presence of scalp oils, the fungus Malassezia globosa, and what scientists call a susceptibility to skin irritation (or a reaction to the presence of the fungus).

I have not seen any dandruff from my own scalp, but my head itches so often that I do wonder if maybe pregnancy changed my production of scalp oils somehow or if I have a fungus (which sounds yucky so I hope not!).

I'm kind of picky when it comes to the way bath soaps, lotions, and hair products smell, so I was curious to see if I'd like the fragrance used in Head & Shoulders Eucalyptus Itchy Scalp Care products. I was pleasantly surprised by the fresh, naturally-inspired scents of almond oil, eucalyptus and aloe vera. It had a nice clean smell without being too overpowering.

Also, I was anxious to see how it made my hair feel. I was so surprised it made my hair SO soft! I have some natural curl in my hair so it gets frizzy easily and doesn't always feel very soft, except when I go to the hair salon for a haircut and style! Using Head & Shoulders Eucalyptus Itchy Scalp Care shampoo and conditioner actually gave my hair the silky smooth texture I get at the salon. I even made Jim feel it to show him how soft it was the first time I used it!

As for my scalp, I haven't noticed a huge difference after using it for over a week, but I love the way it makes my hair look and feel so much I'm going to try it longer and pay attention to my scalp to see if the itchiness is alleviated over time.

The only problem I had with the product was it irritated my sensitive skin on my face, neck, shoulders, and back. It actually made it itch and burn a little bit! I had this reaction one other time when I tried Head & Shoulders (original). Maybe I have an allergy to something in Head & Shoulders products? My hair is so soft and smooth that I just wash my body a little extra after washing my hair to make sure I get my skin clean to keep from having this skin irritation.

Although I haven't seen a big difference yet in my scalp itchiness, my hair looks and feels great so I would recommend Head & Shoulders Eucalyptus Itchy Scalp Care as a product to try for dry, itchy, and sensitive scalp and for beautiful hair! My hair truly feels so so soft and silky from scalp to tip!

I try and condition the ends more.. my hair is oily but in the winter it gets the dry frizzies which I hate!

I don't have much of a "routine"!! I guess I use a lot more lotion in the winter. Thanks for the chance to win!

Mommato3miracles said...

In the winter I change to a cream lotion versus a thinner one, I use a leave in conditioner on top of the regular conditioner, and more chapstick for my dry lips

Tote, Debby, Sammy and Caleb Jimenez said...

I don't really do much different, but I do continue washing my hair with cool water. I've found that it dries my scalp less. I wish there were a miracle cure! All of the intense scalp shampoos are so strong and I have to use them so much to keep my scalp from drying that I worry what chemicals I'm putting in my body!!

In the winter, my already dry skin, gets even more so! I use Oil of olay in shower lotion, later in the day, i use more lotion, and for my hair, or scalp i should say, i have to start using head and shoulders. i have oily hair, but my scalp itches like crazy and sometime i even see flakes! YIKES!

Brandi said...

Lotion, lotion, lotion! I know you should use it everyday but I make sure I use it when the weather gets colder (my skin itches if I don't)!

Ashley said...

In the winter, my skin gets so dry so I always try to put on extra moisturizer so keep my skin from flaking.

Thanks!

The only thing I change from Summer to winter is more moisturizer. With living in Texas we are used to such a moist atmosphere during the summer that I get really dry during the winter if I don't cake on the moisterizer.

The Ham Family said...

It is so very dry here in the Panhandle of Texas that I have to really increase my use of lotion. I cover myself with lotion when I get out of the shower and when I go to bed and use it on my arms and legs as much as I can during the day. Also I have to use lip balm for my chapped lips.

I change up my beauty routine by adding more lotions creams into my routine to help with my itchy, dry, sensitive skin that tends to flare up in the winter months.
Oooh so excited sure could use a visa gift card especially around the holidays!!!!!

My skin is so dry in the winter - lots of lotion helps!

I use chapstick for my lips, and lotion for my dry cracked hands.

Ashley said...

I change my shampoo to Head and Shoulders and use a lotion with Aloe and Vitamin E! I also use a moisturizing conditioner!

BK said...

I use powdered facial bronzer in the winter to add some color to my face. In the summertime, I get color from the sun. :-)

Kara said...

how do i change my beauty routine for the winter?? well, not much! i use more lotion and i tend to straighten my hair a little more often. the summer humidity (i live in south texas) makes it useless to try, so i enjoy straight hair in the winter :)

King J's Queen said...

Winter is always more challenging for me. My skin, hair and scalp get dry, and my hands will crack. My hair gets really flyaway, so I use lots of extra conditioner. I switch from hand lotion to hand cream, too, to help with the hand cracking. I apply Carmex more often to my lips than I do in the summer. I switch to a creamy body wash, too.

Kristy said...

Yep - slather on the lotion and have plenty of chapstick handy.

Michelle said...

I don't really change anything!

Erin said...

Winter is when I force myself to lotion up after each shower. If not, my skin gets really dry and itchy.

I don't change much for the winter times, just use more lotion or moisturizer. I use chapstick year round (bad habit!) and I don't change my shampoo/conditioner routine with the seasons, I have to change each time the bottles are empty. My hair has gotten soooo long (trying to get it long enough to donate and still have a little hair left) and it gets greasy very easily so I have to change it up after each bottle of shampoo/conditioner. This sounds like a great product to try though!

Thanks A!

Lotion, chapstick, and ponytails because my hair gets weird in the winter :)

Kris said...

Oh I COMPLETELY understand the horribly itchy scalp! I've struggled with it for about a year myself. I finally went to the dermatologist and went an Orace@. Its RIDICULOUSLY expensive, though. Its a daily med, and I don't have to take it all the time, (I tend to skip months when I can...in fact, I've been off it for a few months now, but really probably need to start it up again). But it honestly is the only thing I've found that has worked and believe me, I've tried changing all kinds of hair products. The derm told me that stress can bring it about...you've had none that, have you?! LOL!!

Lisa D :) said...

I don't change my routine in "winter" because I live in south Florida and it gets cold so seldom in the winter that it really doesn't require any changes in products or care of my skin. I AM going to try the shampoo which you wrote about -- my hair is similar to yours and so at the very least I'm hoping for soft hair!

For hair, I use conditioner and hairspray more often in the dry winter months. For skin, I use more lotion and chapstick.

During the winter months I do add more conditioner to my hair. I also use more lotion on my body. I have noticed even this year that my hands get really dry and I am having to put hand cream on them whenever it gets cooler here.

I just might have to try this Head and Shoulders product sometime. Ordinarily my hair is fine and oily but during the winter it really seems to dry out a lot and of course so does my scalp.

Love,
Shiela

I use shea butter in the winter, my skin definitely is more dry when it's cold out.

I definitely have to change my products, especially moisturizer/body lotion to ones that are more moisturizing, in the fall/winter. I have even had to use the itchy scalp Head & Shoulders to help out my dry scalp. It helps!

Everything changes in the winter. It's all about keeping the skin hydrated. So I tend to take long bubble baths in 1/4 Cup baby oil.

kmbutrfly said...

i don't consciously change anything but for some reason i think i moisturize even more in the winter. i think the heat in the house dries me out (although i always have dry skin), but also there is something about slathering myself with lotion and then slipping on knee socks, cozy pants, and long-sleeve shirts to settle in for the night that is just nice. in summer, half the time i don't want to lotion up because it makes me cold. i don't know why! i'm weird. each fall i also use a 28-wash hair color to go from my dark brown to a dark auburn. i love it! it makes my hair shiny and bright when i'm ready for that change to fall colors and clothes. i have a 9 month old and i think i will check out this H&S - i have had an itchy scalp since soon after she was born, as well! the things we do for love : )

The only change I really make is using a humidifier. If I don't use a humidifier in the winter, my forehead gets crazy flaky/peely and no amount of lotion or cream or oil
will rehydrate it. But as long as I sleep with my humidifier going, all is right in the forehead world! LOL
