Today was the first of our new Family Sundays. Our kids called it "No Work Day." Jim works 2 jobs so I can be at home with Owen, Lily, LittleMan, and Bennett, and until today, he hasn't had one day each week that he didn't have to go to at least one job unless he took time off. Well, last week he asked his boss at job #2 (his part-time job) if he could work an additional weeknight instead of Sunday nights so we could have a full day as a family with "no work."
The kids had been looking forward to "No Work Day" all week, and they were so excited when they woke up this morning. We spent most of the day playing at home, and then we took them out for ice cream (actually frozen yogurt but they called it ice cream) :-)
They had the best time choosing their toppings--m&ms, reeses, chocolate chips..... lots. Of. Chocolate! I have no idea who they get their love of chocolate from. *wink*
Today was also our second time to take Bennett out as a family without oxygen! He is doing so great and loved his own cup of vanilla and raspberry frozen yogurt too!
This isn't the clearest picture and a couple of cuties wanted to eat and not smile, but I'm glad we had someone take a pic for us! It was a very special day!
Tonight we made a picnic in the living room floor for the kids and watched part of the Super Bowl together. They think picnics in the house are so much fun. It's so easy and they love it! We had fruit, veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, chips and salsa, and veggie burgers and fish sticks. I was going to make turkey burgers for all of us but the frozen ones I had expired! The kids didn't care what I made as long as they could have their picnic.
We really had a fun day!
I'm sure when we do our daily calendar tomorrow Owen will tell me, "We have just 6 more days until No Work Day!" Let the countdown begin!
What do you like to do as a family with your kids? We are looking for things to do on Sundays that aren't too pricey but fun things we can all do together!

Yay for " no work" day!! We love tO go to our lOcal park to stroll around the park and feed the ducks!
What a precious family, Adrienne! :)
How fun! Just simple things like riding their bikes to the park, playing tag with them at the park, throwing a frisbee back and forth, or taking a ball to kick around along with us. In the summer, bbqing in our backyard and playing in the blow up pool. Going to the mall, just walking around, getting a pretzel snack, and playing at the play area. Movie nights with popcorn are fun (everyone in their pjs!)! In the summer, we love going out and catching fireflies then releasing them too. It's magical!
"No work day" will be a phrase the kids will remember their entire lives! It sounds like something incredibly special to them! What do we do with our kiddos? Parks RULE! Can't beat a park! Storytime at the local library is fantastic too, if you have that option. HAVE FUN no matter what you do.
What an awesome day for such a beautiful family! I remember when my kids were little (they are now 15, 12 and almost 10), we used to have PJ day on Thursdays and the four of us would stay in PJs, watch fun kid shows, have picnics on the den floor, play games etc all day while daddy was at work. I looked forward to Thurs as much as the kids. Good times!! Blessings :)
We like to keep all screens off and play! We play board games, charades, go for walks, bake together...one of their favorites is homemade donuts on Sunday!
I think that is a great idea! I might have to implement it when our son gets a little older. :-)
